2021 National Leadership Excellence Award

AMRPA Honors Medical Rehabilitation Leader at Virtual Fall Conference
Suzanne Kauserud of Atrium Health receives National Leadership Excellence Award

(WASHINGTON – November 8, 2021) – During its 2021 Virtual Fall Educational Conference & Expo, held October 25-27, the American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association (AMRPA) celebrated excellence in the field of medical rehabilitation with the attendance of hundreds of industry colleagues and peers. The association recognized and honored Suzanne Kauserud, PT, MBA, FACHE, Vice President in the Continuing Care Division of Atrium Health, with the AMRPA National Leadership Excellence Award. She also she serves on AMRPA’s Board of Directors and chairs the AMRPA Unified Post-Acute Care Workgroup and the Quality of Care Committee, and has represented AMRPA on numerous national technical expert panels covering issues such as unified post-acute payment models and quality reporting issues.

The AMRPA National Leadership Excellence Award confers association-wide recognition on an individual who has exemplified outstanding service and made significant contributions to the field of medical rehabilitation.

In his presentation of this year’s award to Suzanne Kauserud, Dr. Anthony Cuzzola, chair of the AMRPA Board of Directors, said that Kauserud “exemplifies leadership, integrity, dedication, and commitment to the field. She has worked hard to improve patient outcomes at not only her own organization, but for all in the post-acute space. She is highly regarded by not only her peers in AMRPA, but also colleagues throughout the post-acute care continuum.”

The colleague who nominated Kauserud for the award explained the impact that she has had on medical rehabilitation as a whole, saying, “Suzanne has a ‎rare ability to translate her insights – informed by her experiences as a health system executive ‎leader and as a clinician – into actionable and evidence-based policy decisions that represent ‎AMRPA’s diverse membership base.”

“The demands on Suzanne’s time from both her health system and AMRPA are sizeable and directly attributable to her distinguished combination of clinical, policy, and leadership skills…In a rapidly changing health care ecosystem, Suzanne has been able to stay abreast of policy changes that impact patients,‎ providers and payers, and launch industry-wide education to advance access and quality of care. ‎These skills and willingness to support the field have been all the more evident during the ‎COVID-19 pandemic,” the nominating colleague said.

In line with AMRPA’s vision of transforming lives through access to the highest quality of medical rehabilitation care, the association regularly recognizes excellence from industry leaders who contribute to the advancement of that vision during its two yearly conferences, the Spring Conference & Congressional Fly-In and the Fall Educational Conference & Expo.
