On December 11, 2020, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued the first emergency use authorization (EUA) for a COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine, developed by Pfizer-BioNTech, is now approved for use in people 16 years of age and older. Based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and it is expected that frontline health care workers and long-term care facility residents will be eligible to begin receiving vaccinations. The FDA issued the second EUA for a COVID-19 vaccine on December 20, 2020 The vaccine, developed by Moderna, is now approved for use in people 18 years of age and older. Based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
